A string of drug hauls and narcotics being seized by the Meghalaya police and their Assam counterparts deserves public appreciation especially the effort of these various wings in the department to track and seize such things before they get into the hands of unwanted miscreants and anti-socials.
The back to back seizures are alarming and show that the society and the government agencies need to join hands better in containing the spread of such illegal and nefarious substances that could corrupt young people.
Drug and narcotics addiction is a dangerous trend and surveys have shown that law enforcement needs to tackle right from the root cause and finding a cure to this requires the all round support of the society. There have been cases where heinous crimes perpetrated by addicts have posed a challenge to law and order and social peace.
It is attributed that the growth of anti-social elements is also due to the failing economic system which has not been able to provide an alternative solution and thus by taking advantage and exploiting the situation to the limit. It is important that legislators take utmost importance before the society becomes dangerous.
