Police have finally arrested the person allegedly involved in the murder of a man from Rasong village near Smit.
The body of 40-year-old Snor Kharkongor was found in a deep gorge in a place called Mawriwar East in Pyngkya village on June 13.
Accordingly, a team led by Sub-Inspector Elias R. Marak of Madanrting police station was dispatched to the place of occurrence and reached the spot at around 4 am of June 14.
The highly decomposed body was taken to NEIGRIHMS on June 14 where a post mortem examination was conducted.
A case of unnatural death was registered immediately by police on June 20.
On June 22, an FIR was filed by the family members of the deceased who suspected that he was murdered.
In this connection, a case was registered at Madanrting police station and investigation was carried out.
The investigation team zeroed down on Weles Umsong (32) an acquaintance of the deceased who was hiding in Nongwar village under Sohra civil sub-division.
Police arrested Umsong today and from his possession, the mobile phone of the deceased was recovered.
Umsong has admitted to the murder and told police that he strangulated the victim and disposed the body in the gorge.
Police said that the accused will be produced in court for police remand.
