: In view of the adverse prevailing weather conditions and incessant rainfall in East Jaiñtia Hills district, the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority has advised the general public to remain alert at all times and avoid unnecessary travel or venture to areas that are vulnerable to landslides especially the stretch between Sonapyrdi and Malidor villages along the National Highway 6.
Frequent landslides/ rockslides usually occurs in these areas, he said.
The public are also advised not to venture to areas with vulnerable water logging, riverine flooding, or low-lying areas for safety. They are also advised to inform the district Administration, nearest police station or the block development officers on any eventuality due to the prevailing weather conditions for immediate response and relief.
Furthermore, the line departments and stakeholders like the Police, PWD, MeECL, Water Resources Department, Block Development Officers, Health, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, NHAI, Cement Association, etc are instructed to be vigil and alert at all times and to be ready with available equipments or resources for ready response to any eventuality.
