The Maitshaphrang Movement has called for greater recognition of Phan Nonglait as a freedom fighter by the state and central governments.
In a press release today, Maitshphrang convenor Michael Syiem said that it is great news that a book by a Nonglait descendant, Daniel Stone Lyngdoh, has been written about the Khasi freedom fighter, who fought against the British along with celebrated hero U Tirot Sing Syiem.
Back in 1994 and 1995, the movement in collaboration with the Seng Samla Jaiaw Laitdom had staged a street play on Nonglait in Shillong and Nongkhlaw to highlight her contributions to the freedom struggle.
