To address the menace of plastic that has polluted the streams and farmlands that also flows to the Myntdu river, the Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu (KYM) today convened a meeting with farmers from Ïalong village.
The two groups resolved to work together to address the problem and to find out ways and means to protect the river. They also appealed people inhabiting in and around the river not to litter plastic bags and to dump biodegradable waste in their gardens, compost bins, etc for a better future.
The group expressed concern that when the monsoon season arrives, all the plastic thrown indiscriminately are washed into the river. This they said will not only bring diseases but would also affect farmers in the region.
Meanwhile, P. Phawa President of the farmers at Ïalong, and others have expressed dismayed on the lack of assistance coming forth from the State government on the destruction caused by natural calamities in 2020 and neither assistance like manure, medicines, etc were given to them.
