A mock exercise simulating an earthquake will be conducted by the office of the Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, East Khasi Hills District at Mawkasiang village tomorrow.
Titled, ‘COMMEX-2022’ the mock exercise is part of the yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of Statehood of Meghalaya organised in collaboration with the office of the District Home Guards Commandant, East Khasi Hills and the Dorbar Shnong of Mawkasiang.
The mock exercise is being conducted with an aim to build disaster resilience in the community and empower them with lifesaving skills, incident response and planning since they are the first responder in any disaster, a press statement here today said.
Prior to the mock exercise a three-day training on Search and Rescue, Evacuation and First Aid was imparted to the residents who will form the Village Disaster Management Teams such Village Search & Rescue Team, Village First Aid Team etc.
The office has been actively involved in improving community-based disaster preparedness which is one of the parameters for assessing sustainable development Goal No.13 i.e., Climate Action whose indicator is Disaster Preparedness Score.
The office further urged the public not to panic, spread misinformation or confusion.
