Two days after Highland Post published a photo of a truck loading furniture from NEEPCO head office here to shift them to Guwahati, members of the KSU today visited the office of the power corporation to ascertain if there was any move to shift the office to Guwahati.
The KSU delegation led by assistant general secretary Erick Nongkynrih tried to meet NEEPCO Chairman and Managing Director Vinod Kumar Singh. However, they could not meet him as he was out of station.
Later, the KSU delegation met NEEPCO Director (Finance) Baidyanath Maharana and had a discussion with him on the matter.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Nongkynrih said that shifting of the NEEPCO office to Guwahati will cause great hardships to local employees from Meghalaya besides loss to the State in many aspects.
“We met the Director (Finance) and asked him if there is any such move to shift the office to Guwahati. He told us that there will be no shifting. We don’t know if what he said was a fact or not. But we will follow up this matter and ensure that the office remains here,” Nongkynrih said.
The KSU leader also said that he enquired from the Director (Finance) about top officials of NEEPCO functioning from outside the State instead of the corporate office in Shillong.
“The Director said that there are works that should be functioning from Shillong, some from Guwahati and some from Delhi. We don’t know if this is really a fact but we will find out,” Nongkynrih said.
