The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) in East Jaiñtia Hills has set a month deadline for the National Highway Authority of India to repair the from Lumshnong to Malidor and warned of shutting down the toll gate there.
Drawing attention to the deteriorating condition of the road, the organisation in a letter to the project director said despite the dangers it poses to commuters and vehicles, toll fees are collected regularly without missing a day
“It has been ages since this road was repaired from the time when it has been constructed. Now hardly any mortar or charcoal is left over in the road. There are large pits and potholes all over, making the ride bumpy and adventurous and lots of risk to drive through it. Many of these pits and potholes are very deep and also during rainy season these potholes or patches were filled with water making the road murky, slippery and even creates nuisance for the traveller to pass by this road,” FKJGP vice president W. Swer said.
He said not only does it cause hurdles in transportation of goods it also affects the smooth running of the ambulances. The unrepaired and bad condition of the road may also leads to accidents and unsolicited mishap, he added.
“We hope that you will address this issue immediately and that further action will not be required from our end. And such action of repair should be seen within one month period from the date of receiving this letter and delayed action towards the same shall unwantedly invite action from our end,” the FKJGP warned.
