Despite the recent decision by Umroi MLA George B. Lyngdoh to quit the Congress and join Trinamool Congress, leaders of the Congress party in Umroi constituency have decided to stick with the party.
Leaders of Umroi Youth Congress Committee said that they are committed to revamp the party in the constituency even as they also chose not to criticise Lyngdoh for leaving the party.
“We will remain in the Congress,” said Umroi Youth Congress Committee leaders president Lumlang Lamarai and vice president Pynskhemborlang Sun while speaking to media persons at Umiam yesterday.
Both Lamarai and Sun said that they have nothing to say against the Umroi MLA for switching over to the Trinamool Congress.
“We have nothing to say against him. It is his personal decision and not the decision of the leaders and supporters of Congress party in the constituency. We are only shocked that he did not inform us before taking such a decision to join Trinamool Congress,” Lamarai said.
Sun said that the people of Umroi constituency have voted Lyngdoh in the 2018 Assembly election as a Congress candidate.
“We want to make it clear that the Congress party is still strong in Umroi constituency. We request all party supporters to remain with the party,” he added.
Sun also said that a meeting of party leaders in Umroi constituency would be held soon to discuss ways and means to strengthen the party.
It may be noted that Lyngdoh was among the twelve Congress MLAs who joined the Trinamool Congress on November 24.
