A cleaning drive and awareness programme on oral health was organised by the NSS Unit of Shillong College today at Smit village, which is one of their adopted village.
The cleaning drive was carried out in the entire stretch from the market area to the adjoining areas of Ïing Sad, where volunteers and youth representatives of the village took part.
After the cleaning drive, an awareness programme was conducted on the importance of oral health at Smit Higher Secondary School and College where Dr. Darimeka Kharbuli (Periodontics & Oral Implantology) was the resource person.
Dr Kharbuli deliberated at length on the importance of oral health and oral health care and urged the people and students in particular to maintain strict oral hygiene and avoid unhealthy habits which cause oral health implications.
The programmes which were held as part of the observation of the 75th Year of India’s Independence (Azadi Amrit Ka Mahotsav) and the 50th Year of Meghalaya statehood was attended by 35 NSS volunteers, four programme officers, 49 village representatives of seven members from each locality and about 20 students and teachers of Smit Higher Secondary School & College.
