Four traditional chiefs in West Khasi Hills district have written to the deputy commissioner wanting an audience with the regional committee on border dispute if any joint physical inspection is carried out along the areas of differences in future.
The executive durbars of the Nonglang Sirdarship, Riangsih Sirdarship, Jyrngam Sirdarship and Nongmynsaw Syiemship in their separate petition said that the committee should inform them whenever a joint inspection is carried out with its Assam counterpart to enable them to present documents, maps etc before the authorities in respect of the physical boundary and territorial jurisdiction.
The regional committee on border dispute for West Khasi Hills led by cabinet minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar had recently came under severe criticism from various quarters for not involving concern stakeholders during a visit to some areas of dispute.
The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council too had demanded the deputy commissioner to nullify the inspection made on October 4 and conduct a fresh site inspection in the presence of all important stakeholders like the representatives of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Himas, local headman and social organisations from West Khasi Hills district.
