Section 144 CrPC has been promulgated in Ri Bhoi district prohibiting any person or organizations from poisoning rivers, streams or any other water bodies with an intension to cause large scale destruction of aquatic life in all major and minor rivers and water bodies.
The district magistrate in an order passed today in view that large scale poisoning of rivers, streams and other water bodies is taking place within the district which may result in extermination of fishes and other living organism and also endanger the local fish population, flora and fauna besides posing a serious health hazard to human life using the poisonous water.
