State Congress working president Ampareen Lyngdoh has rejected charges that her party was divided into factions.
Speaking to media persons here today, Lyngdoh said that Congress is a democratic party where opinions are permitted to be openly discussed.
She was reacting to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s statement that the Congress has three-four factions.
“We are not factions as you see. In Garo Hills the selection of candidates was unanimous, clean and there has been no contest,” Lyngdoh added.
She also said that she has doubts if the NPP would be able to sail through the 2023 Assembly elections without factions.
“Anybody who has applied for a ticket, if they don’t get it they will go somewhere else. This is the unique pattern of politics in Meghalaya. Party politics in the State has been peculiar in nature and these so-called factions that he (Conrad) is referring to could be the multiple personalities that the Congress has,” Lyngdoh said.
The Congress legislator also said that if the Congress is splitting, so is the NPP.
“In Rajabala they did not give their candidate a ticket. Even there is a faction in that party,” Lyngdoh added.
It may be mentioned that NPP is facing rebellion as Mizanur Rahman Kazi, was sidelined in the ticket allocation for a former Congress MLA, Abdus Saleh.
