A minor boy was killed after being run over by a dumper truck in Purakhasia under West Garo Hills today.
The deceased minor was identified as Lucksbirth S Sangma of Kotchu Adok village, Purakhasia. The incident happened at around 4 pm when the child was trying to cross the road.
The dumper truck was on its way back from the export hub of Dalu, close to the border with Bangladesh.
The incident comes close on the heels of another death where a biker was crushed under the wheels of another dumper near the same place. The incident had created a furore with local residents demanding the closure of movement of such trucks through the road.
As per reports, the driver then sped away from the spot and abandoned the vehicle after a while on the same road. He is currently absconding. The dumper has been taken into custody to the Mahendraganj PS in South West Garo Hills.
