The Swachhta Hi Sewa awareness and mobilisation campaign was launched in Tura by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh.
A function for the launch was held at the DRDA hall on September 15 wherein three Swachhagrahis from Dalu, Gambegre and Dadenggre C&RD Blocks and two Swachhta champions from Selsella and Rongram C&RD Blocks were awarded.
Speaking at the launch, Singh said that the district administration and the District Swachh Bharat Mission (G) had taken up various activities as part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahaotsav and the 75th Years of India’s Independence.
He also informed that the Swachh Barat Mission in the district had worked very hard for the last one and a half month to cover 97 villages in educating the rural masses in terms of segregation of plastic wastes, proper dumping of garbage, open defecation free (ODF), proper utilization of streams and other water bodies, etc. to make the villages green and clean.
The Deputy Commissioner also stressed on the need to keep the rivers, streams and other water bodies clean and urged the market committees to ensure the maintenance of hygiene in their respective areas.
During the program, the SBM icon, Roni D Sangma and the SDSEO, Tura, Samuel Ch Marak, presented songs pertaining to Swachhta Hi Sewa.
Others who spoke on the occasion included the District Mission Coordinator, District Swachh Bharat Mission (G), Vibhor Aggarwal and the District Program Manager of MBDA, Valentine Hebron.
The Swachhta Pledge was also taken during the program.
