Many commuters who use the Mawthawpdah-Laitlawsnai-Rangdkhew road were just young children the last time that it was truly motorable. But no repairs have been done on it for the last 15 years.
K Pariong, of Rangdkhew village, informed that the last time the road was black-topped was in 2006. The problem, according to locals, is that when the village was under Pariong constituency it received sufficient attention from the powers that be. However, after the village was moved into Mawkyrwat constituency for the 2013 election it began to receive step-motherly treatment.
These years of being in the administrative wilderness has left the road in a pitiable state, with small vehicles finding it impossible to navigate.
The villagers have taken their plight to the Public Works Department several times in the last few years but to no avail.
The Sordar of Mawsynrap, Heslan Ïawsai, said that the people in the region yearn for the day that the Mawthawpdah-Laitlawsnai-Rangdkhew road is extended to Marngor. However, what is also needed is repairs to the existing stretch, which is only motorable during the dry season.
