Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) 2021 was launched in North Garo Hills with a plantation drive and rally in Resubelpara today.
A series of activities related to nutrition will be held in various parts of the district in September, which is being observed as “Poshan Maah”.
Kick starting the month-long programme with a plantation drive, or Poshan Vatika, Deputy Commissioner RP Marak led the plantation drive to promote the importance of planting fruit bearing trees. A Poshan Rally was also held simultaneously.
Earlier, Marak inaugurated the month-long programme and said that the programme would act as a “rescue mission” to tackle infant and maternal mortality by spreading awareness on the need for healthy eating habits.
In a bid to ensure easy access to nutritional vegetables, he urged the participants to set up kitchen gardens in available spaces and plant a diverse range of nutritious vegetables.
He also urged those present to spread the word on the importance of being vaccinated against Covid-19.
