Those villages and neighbourhoods that have recorded 100 percent Covid-19 vaccine coverage will be felicitated at this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Shillong.
Because of the pandemic, only a limited number of marching contingents will be seen on the day and only those personnel who have been fully vaccinated will take part. Even so, they will be subjected to RT-PCR tests in the run-up to August 15. The six participating contingents will be drawn from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), East Khasi Hills police, Meghalaya police battalion and Home Guards’ brass band.
No refreshments will be served to the limited number of guests.
Similar protocols will apply to the celebrations in other parts of the state at the district and sub-divisional levels. Deputy Commissioners will work out details for block-level functions.
The Arts and Culture Department will arrange for “suitable” commemoration of freedom fighters Tirot Sing Syiem, Kiang Nangbah and Togan Sangma in West Khasi Hills, West Jaiñtia Hills and East Garo Hills respectively.
