A week ago Kyrshan Langwar, who works as an operator and supervisor for the Adhaar Enrolment Agency on a temporary basis under the lookout of the Deputy Commissioner’s office of West Jaintia Hills, alleged that he was terminated from service simply because he inquired about his salary.
“I was terminated from service just because I tried to inquire about my two months’ salary (April and May) by tweeting about it to the help desk at the Regional Office Guwahati that deals with the Adhaar Enrolment in the entire North East,” he told Highland Post yesterday.
Informing that he had sought information about the delay of his salary by tweeting through his Twitter account at the Twitter account at the regional office, Guwahati, he said, “A day after this I received a phone call from the DC’s office, Jowai and I was scolded that I tweeted the RO Guwahati, and after two days, on Saturday, I was terminated from my service.”
He informed that in the termination letter he received from the DC’s office it was stated that the reason he was terminated was that he was an underperforming employee.
“I have worked as a supervisor and an operator right from January 20 this year and have also covered plenty of fieldwork where we would go and meet the Rangbah Shnongs so that people can know and come for the enrolment at the centre. Now the DC’s office has terminated me and even said that I will not get my two months’ salary,” he lamented.
Informing that under Laskein Block more than 10 employees are working as operators for the Adhaar Enrolment Agency and are also yet to get their two months’ salary, he said that even though it was mentioned in the appointment letter that recruitment is temporary and they can be terminated and the contract can end at any time, he is curious to know if he was terminated just because of his tweet or for some other reasons.
He said that he had earlier inquired about the salary from the DC’s office but was told that there are no funds.
“I thought that if I inquired about the matter nothing will happen to me since it’s a lockdown and we need our salary but I want to know if it’s really my mistake and that I was underperforming,” he said.
