There were 19 new Covid-related deaths reported in Meghalaya today, taking the toll from the pandemic to 502, even as a new record was set in daily recoveries, with 755 reported statewide. There were also 957 new cases, with East Khasi Hills accounting for 375, its lowest figure since May 16.
Almost two-thirds (65.94 percent), or 331, of all the coronavirus fatalities in the state have been recorded in May. Today’s count was the lowest in the last five days.
Fourteen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with two in West Jaintia Hills, two in East Jaintia Hills and one in South Garo Hills. Eleven out of the 19 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death. The others were brought dead to hospital.
The deceased were identified as Willmi Syad (79) of Khliehriat, Milan Sukla Baidya (50) of Lady Keane College compound in Shillong, Reshel Jahrin (80) of Jaiaw Laitdom, Clinta Prasad Pradhan (61) of Polo, Philista Marboh (93) of Mawlynrei, Aibines Kharpuri (59) of Pohkseh, Ram Babu Singh (55) of Garikhana, Chandeswar Ray (45) of Nongthymmai, Ezing M Sangma (40) of Nongalbibra, Bud Chyrmang (66) of Pamra Paithlu, December Dkhar (57) of Lumshnong, J Philson Pariat (64) of Mawlai Umjaiur, Cleverring Tonwel Pyrtuh (39) of Golf Links, Shapstar Kharbani (34) of Mawlai Nongkwar, Belinda Jyrain (64) of Malki Pdengshnong, Saraswati Das (76) of Ichamati, H Dapline R Massar (75) of Mawlai Nonglum, Korbit Nongbri (83) of Mawlai and Riwanka Bareh (46) of Iongpiah.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 375 of today’s reported infections, including three among armed forces/paramilitaries, two returnees, 20 high-risk contacts, nine influenza-like illness (ILIs), 20 severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), two through screening, 14 in Jaiaw, 10 in Laban, 11 in Madanrting, 10 in Mawklot, 64 in Mawlai, 10 in Mawprem, 11 in Mawpyrshong, 12 in Nongmynsong, 18 in Nongthymmai, 14 in Pynthor, 11 in Raj Bhavan and 134 in various other neighbourhood clusters.
Ri-Bhoi reported 194 new cases (15 in Domphlang, 12 in Downgate, 65 high-risk, 21 ILIs, 33 in Lumsohphoh, four returnees, three screening, 41 other clusters), West Garo Hills 90 (17 in Dadenggre, eight health workers, 23 high-risk, six ILIs, two police personnel, one returnee, 17 in Selsella, 16 other clusters), West Jaintia Hills 89 (one health worker, 32 high-risk, 16 ILIs, 13 in Moodymmai, two screening, 24 other clusters), South West Garo Hills 58 (42 in Garobadha, one health worker, five high-risk, seven ILIs, three SARIs), East Jaintia Hills 49 (11 high-risk, 13 ILIs, 23 in Pyrdung, two in Bataw), East Garo Hills 32 (one health worker, nine high-risk, eight ILIs, one police, 13 in Rongjeng), West Khasi Hills 29 (one health worker, four high-risk, one ILI, one police, five screening, 17 in clusters), North Garo Hills 21 (seven high-risk, 11 in Omorpul, three police) and South Garo Hills 20 (four health workers, five high-risk, two ILIs, seven in Rangdokram, two screening).
There were also 755 recoveries today – 395 in East Khasi Hills, 91 in West Jaintia Hills, 91 in East Jaintia Hills, 69 in Ri-Bhoi, 36 in West Garo Hills, 34 in West Khasi Hills, 19 in South West Garo Hills, seven in South Garo Hills, six in North Garo Hills, four in South West Khasi Hills and three East Garo Hills.
There are now 7,971 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 4,259 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,312, West Garo Hills 570, West Jaintia Hills 562, South West Garo Hills 341, East Jaintia Hills 221, North Garo Hills 165, West Khasi Hills 160, South Garo Hills 148, East Garo Hills 118 and South West Khasi Hills 115.
In all, Meghalaya has had 31,449 Covid-19 cases, of which 7,971 are active, 22,976 have recovered and 502 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 73.06 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.60 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 939.57.
