There were 25 new Covid-related deaths reported across Meghalaya today, setting another grave new record, including seven in Jaintia Hills. There were also 828 new Covid-19 cases and 419 recoveries.
Fifteen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with six in West Jaintia Hills (including a nine-month-old baby) and one each in East Jaintia Hills, West Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and North Garo Hills. Twenty-four out of the 25 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.
The deceased were identified as Sioka Suting (68) of Nongthymmai in Shillong, Trumanson Blah (70) of Nongkasen, Fullstar Khongthaw (35) of Pynursla, Honest Marak (60) of Bajengdoba, Anita Rani (50) of Khliehriat, Jina Marbaniang (72) of Upper Shillong, Aihunlang Nongrum (40) of Smit, Plentimon Shanpru (73) of Lummawbah, Shimlis Lakhi (52) of Bataw, Riang Laloo (46) of Dulong, Dorsola Kharbani (50) of Mawlai Mawiong, Icydora Pathaw (70) of Mawbah, Roybok Ymbon (60) of Mynthong, William Raum Guenther Jr (39) of Bishnupur, Mitila Lyngdoh Kynshi (60) of Mawpat, Tiewlily Tang (57) of Jowai, Josephine Shanpru (39) of Lummawbah, Kyrkhumi Passah (9 months) of Jowai, Rana Kharkongor (69) of Mawpat, Dr Bianglang Lato (60) of Langkyrding, Amos Khonglah (39) of Mihmyntdu, Leki Dkhar (35) of Rymbai, Aimeda Umsong (38) of Mawshun, Dwil Tynsong (79) of Mawlai Umjaiur and Salgra M Marak (45) of Tura.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 392 of today’s reported infections, including one among armed forces/paramilitaries, 51 high-risk contacts, 17 influenza-like illness (ILIs), five through screening, 10 severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), 19 in Jaiaw, 15 in Lumparing, 33 in Madanrting, 10 in Mawbah, 51 in Mawlai, 15 in Mawphlang, 11 in Nongmynsong, 15 in Nongthymmai, 18 in Khyndailad, 17 in Umpling and 104 in various other neighbourhood clusters.
Ri-Bhoi reported 170 new cases (13 in Bhoirymbong, seven in Byrnihat, 12 in Downgate, four health workers, 17 high-risk, five ILIs, 51 in Khweng, one police personnel, 12 in Rtiang, 12 in Sajer, one returnee, three screening, 10 in Umbir and 18 in other clusters), West Jaintia Hills 79 (seven in Chilliaj Raij, nine high-risk, nine in Kpermynsnieh, 11 in Moodop, eight in Nartiang, five SARIs, 19 screening and 11 in other clusters), West Garo Hills 59 (three in Bhaitbari, one in Chandmari, three in Fancy Valley, one health worker, 10 high-risk, 18 ILIs, two in Phulbari, one police, one returnee, seven in Rongkhon, one SARI, seven screening, four in Tikrikilla), South West Garo Hills 35 (21 in Betasing, three in Garobadha, five ILIs, four in Modhupara, two police), East Jaintia Hills 27 (one factory worker, nine high-risk, eight ILIs, six returnees, one SARI, two screening), North Garo Hills 19 (14 high-risk, three ILIs, one SARI, one screening), East Garo Hills 19 (one high-risk, two ILIs, four returnees, 12 in Rongjeng), West Khasi Hills 12 (four high-risk, two ILIs, six in Nongkasen), South Garo Hills nine (five high-risk, four ILIs) and South West Khasi Hills seven (one health worker, one high-risk, one ILI, two in Mawlangwir, two police, one returnee).
There were also 419 recoveries today – 253 in East Khasi Hills, 60 in West Garo Hills, 33 in East Jaintia Hills, 23 in Ri-Bhoi, 18 in West Khasi Hills, 11 in West Jaintia Hills, 10 in South West Garo Hills, five in North Garo Hills, three in East Garo Hills and three in South Garo Hills.
There are now 6,861 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,881 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 970, West Garo Hills 529, West Jaintia Hills 475, South West Garo Hills 279, East Jaintia Hills 222, West Khasi Hills 180 and North Garo Hills 113.
In all, Meghalaya has had 27,755 Covid-19 cases, of which 6,861 are active, 20,480 have recovered and 414 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 73.79 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.49 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 793.14.
