East Jaintia Hills will impose a total lockdown until May 24, the Deputy Commissioner announced today.
The district began Saturday with a ‘weekend lockdown’ to run until Monday morning. However, in an order today, the DC announced a total lockdown until May 24 under the same conditions.
Under the restrictions, the areas of Khliehriat East and West, whole of Ladrymbai, Sookilo, Umpleng and Umkiang markets will be allowed to open on May 17, 19 and 21 from 9am to 3pm. Half of all essential shops and those dealing in hardware and electronics will be allowed to open on alternate day basis as regulated by local authorities.
As of today, East Jaintia Hills had seen a total of 338 new Covid-19 cases since the end of March, a whopping increase of 61 percent.
