The District Mineral Foundation Trust, East Jaiñtia Hills District has earmarked Rs 20 crore for establishing a general hospital at the site of the existing PHC at Lumshnong.
The Integra Ventures, a health consultancy firm based in Guwahati has been entrusted to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) which aims to assess the healthcare needs of the population, paying capacity and health seeking behaviour, to identify common illnesses and disease prevalent in the area and others.
East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner, E. Kharmalki informed that the construction of the general hospital is a pilot project that the DMFT has offered since 2018 and is awaiting government approval. “If it materialises, it will not only be a major boon to the entire district of East Jaiñtia Hills but to the State and the north east as a whole,” he said.
Kharmalki said that the project needs government approval and NOC from the health department since the land where the PHC exists belongs to the State government.
Informing that the general hospital will be equipped with modern technologies and machines and will require more doctors and specialists, he said for phase-I an amount of Rs 2 crore has been earmarked from the fund with a total estimate of Rs 20 crores till the project completes.
Meanwhile, as per the DPR, the Phase-I of the project will comprise an OPD – equipped with specialist Paediatric and General Medicine, while in the phase-II the number of beds will be increased to 25 equipped with full-time OB&G Specialist including visiting consultant in General Surgery. Phase-III will comprise of IPD (Additional 13 IPD), ENT Orthopaedics, Dentistry, and Opthalmology while in the phase-IV there will be 12 additional IPD Beds, with a total of 50 beds 16 CT-Scan machines.
East Jaiñtia Hills District at present has the 100 bedded Khliehriat CHC, 30 bedded Sutnga CHC and 10 bedded PHCs at Pamra Paithlu, Rymbai, Lumshnong, Bataw, Umkiang, and Saipung.
