More than 60 per cent of healthcare workers (HCW) in South West Garo Hills have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, figures from the Health Department show, the highest proportion for any district in Meghalaya.

A total of 9,017 medical workers have received one dose of the vaccine out of the 33,185 that have been registered as of today.

Ri-Bhoi, on the other hand, has seen only 11 per cent of its HCW vaccinated with the first round of Covishield, though the process of immunization began relatively recently in the district.

South West Garo Hills has seen 1,546 HCWs register for the vaccine, of which 62 per cent, or 951, have received the first shot.

East Khasi Hills, the most populous district in the state, has seen only 17 percent of its HCWs vaccinated, i.e. 2,163 out of 12,604.

The Health Department aims to finish vaccinating all healthcare workers by February 17, though the target date for completion in certain districts is earlier than that.
