Village heads, NGO leaders and students in East Jaiñtia Hills district today took out a protest rally to condemn the alleged rape and murder of an 18 year-old orphan at Sohkymphor village.
The teenager was found murdered by unknown miscreants today at a place in Sohkymphor village. Her body was found in a jungle in the village on Thursday morning. It was suspected that the girl was strangulated before her neck was cut. There are also suspicions that the miscreants had raped the girl before killing her.
During the march, people holding banners and black flags shouted slogans demanding strict punishment to the accused.
Earlier, a short meeting was held at Tia Chaphrang Secondary School, Sohkymphor chaired by Protasius Suiam, Chairman of the school’s educational management society. Headmaster of the school, Ernest Shadap, parents, students, VDP president Cheilang Lyngdoh, Rimiki Lyngdoh president of KSU Sohkymphor, Heatermon Ryngkhlem president of AJYWO East Jaiñtia Zone, Marlistar Lyngdoh president of HNYF were present at the meeting.
