A 38-year-old man was one of three newly-recorded fatalities due to Covid-19 recorded in Meghalaya today.
All three deaths were in East Khasi Hills’ hospitals, though one of the deceased was from Ri-Bhoi and another from West Jaintia Hills.
The State’s death toll from the virus is now 128, with East Khasi Hills’ now 105. The district’s fatality rate has increased to 1.34 per cent, while that of Meghalaya as a whole is just shy of one percent, at 0.99 per cent.
Nabir Limbu (74) was found Covid-positive on December 2 and isolated and home before having to be admitted to NEIGRIHMS on December 11 before expiring there on the same day. The cause of death was Type 2 diabetes with end stage renal disease, Covid-19 pneumonia and hypertension.
Trevor O. Lamare (38), of Iawmusiang, Jowai, was admitted to Nazareth Hospital on December 3 and died yesterday morning. The cause of death was Type 2 respiratory failure with Covid-19 pneumonia and severe adrenoleukodystrophy, which is a rare genetic condition.
Reading Sohlang (88), of Nongpoh, was admitted to Nazareth Hospital on November 28 and also died yesterday morning. The cause of death was severe sepsis with Covid-19 pneumonia and hypertension.
Meanwhile, there were also 123 new infections reported today as well as 31 recoveries. This is the highest number of new infections in a single day since November 20.
Of the new cases 76 were in East Khasi Hills, 42 in West Jaintia Hills, two in West Garo Hills and one each in South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.
In East Khasi Hills there were eight new cases among health workers, two among police personnel and several in various clusters, including 11 in Mawlai Iewrynghep, 11 in Nongthymmai, six in Barapathar and two each in Happy Valley, Laban, Laitumkhrah, Malki, Mawlai Kynton Massar and Mawprem.
West Jaintia Hills, which has seen 105 new cases in the last five days, saw 37 new infections reported from the Mihmyntdu cluster.
Of the recoveries East Khasi Hills recorded 19, East Garo Hills three, West Garo Hills three, South West Khasi Hills two and there was one each in North Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi, South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
In all, Meghalaya has had 12,866 Covid-19 cases, of which 730 are active, 12,008 have recovered and 128 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has dropped to 93.33 percent.
