One more Covid-related fatality was recorded in East Khasi Hills today, taking the state’s death toll from the disease to 124.
KK Paul (55), of Mawbah, Shillong, was brought dead to NEIGRIHMS on the evening of December 7. He had a history of coronary artery disease and hypertension and a post-mortem Covid test came back positive for the virus.
His is the 101st death from the disease in the district, which now has a fatality rate of 1.31 percent. Meghalaya’s fatality rate stands at 0.98 percent.
Meanwhile, there were also 59 new infections reported today as well as 44 recoveries.
Of the new cases 50 were in East Khasi Hills, five in West Jaiñtia Hills, two in Ri-Bhoi and one each in East Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills.
In East Khasi Hills eight armed forces/paramilitaries tested positive, along with six health workers, one police personnel and a handful of people in various clusters, including two each in Laban, Madanrting, Malki and Nongthymmai.
Of the recoveries East Khasi Hills recorded 26, East Garo Hills nine, West Garo Hills six, West Khasi Hills two and East Jaiñtia Hills one.
In all, Meghalaya has had 12,645 Covid-19 cases, of which 594 are active, 11,927 have recovered and 124 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 94.32 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 1,700 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
