PHE minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar today inspected the site for construction of the Mawpon-Markhew bridge and the water source at Rilang river for the Mawkyrwat Greater Water Supply Scheme.
The Minister was accompanied by engineers of the PHE and PWD (Roads) departments trekked about two hours from Mawpon-Markhew to Jashiar. He said construction of the bridge would benefit many villages in those areas that comprises of Jabar, Nongbrei-Nongdom, Shngimawleiñ, Pyndenumsaw and other villages under Shilliang Um under South West Khasi Hills district.
On the water supply project, Tongkhar said he was positive that under the MDA government, the dream of supplying potable water to the residents of Mawkyrwat will be fulfilled.
PHE Executive Engineer S. Snaitang informed that 16 villages will be covered under the water supply scheme and the department is making efforts to complete the paper works needed to execute the project.
