Shillong, Oct 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the 15th Foundation Day of Mawkyllei College at Dorbar Lyngdoh Nonglait Ground, West Khasi Hills.
Paying tribute to founder Late Hopingstone Lyngdoh, the CM said education is the top priority of the government and the key to change.
He announced Rs 25 lakh from the CM’s Special Grant for the college and Rs 5 lakh for music and sports equipment.
Mawthadraishan MLA Shakliar Warjri was the Guest of Honour.
Mawkyllei College was established on June 6, 2011, after the village community realized Class XII pass-outs were struggling to pursue higher education in distant towns due to costs. The initiative was taken forward with community effort and strong support from Late Hopingstone Lyngdoh. The college now serves over 150 students with 18 teaching and non-teaching staff.
