Shillong, May 10: In a push to strengthen policing and infrastructure along the Assam-Meghalaya border, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Saturday inaugurated the permanent office premises of Barato Police Outpost and laid foundation stones for road projects worth Rs 24.79 crore.
The outpost, built on 4.6 acres of land donated by Barato village and the late P Dkhar, was inaugurated in the presence of Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar, local MLA Nujorki Sungoh, Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang and other officials.
Tynsong said the upgraded facility would strengthen policing and improve law and order management in the Assam-Meghalaya border region. He urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and work collectively to prevent crime in their community.
Nongrang said the facility was sanctioned in November 2022 and completed through close coordination between the district administration and district police. She added that the outpost would play a key role in maintaining peace and addressing crime-related challenges in the border region.
On the same day, Tynsong laid foundation stones for four road infrastructure projects totaling Rs 24.79 crore including the improvement/widening of Nartiang-Jonglwit-Barato Road, sanctioned at Rs16.93 crore, improvement including metalling and blacktopping of Shillong-Myntang internal village road, at Rs 3.07 crore, improvement including metalling and blacktopping of Maitdein internal village road, at Rs 3 crore and rehabilitation and re-surfacing from 13th NJB Road to Thadbamon, at Rs 1.78 crore.
