Shillong, Apr 30: The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has accused the ruling Voice of the People Party (VPP) of lying to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) over the supposed blacklisting of a security firm, North East Security Services (NESS).
The matter goes back to January when the KHADC took action against NESS after it was found to have violated the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation 1954.
The KHADC had issued NESS with a licence to provide services to the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Laitkor. However, it later found out that the company had applied for providing security services at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Sohra using a photocopy of the KHADC certificate issued to it.
The trading licence issued to NESS for contract work at KV Laitkor was supposed to have then been revoked.
However, KHNAM working president Thomas Passah today said that NESS has clarified that it was never formally blacklisted by the district council and that its licence for KV Laitkor was not revoked but lapsed naturally at the end of its contract with the school.
The company confirmed that it is pursuing other contracts in Meghalaya, as KHNAM had pointed out three days ago.
Passah said that the Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Winston Tony Lyngdoh, had stated in the house that NESS had been blacklisted.
However, given the company’s clarification, Passah said, “If we go by the statement made by the MD (managing director) of the firm, then a false statement, especially on the floor of the House, needs to be condemned and the KHADC needs to act and refrain from mere lip service, which is also seen as misinformation to the general public.”
