Shillong, Feb 16: The central government’s Department of Telecommunications is actively promoting the establishment of ‘5G Use Case Labs’ across the country to foster innovation, support indigenous development and accelerate the adoption of next-generation telecom technologies, an official press release stated today.
In Meghalaya, a 5G Use Case Lab has been established at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya, providing students and researchers hands-on exposure to advanced technologies such as 5G networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), edge computing and emerging telecom applications. The lab is expected to play a crucial role in skill development, research and creation of region-specific solutions.
In the North East region a total of eight such labs have been established, significantly strengthening the regional innovation and research ecosystem, the release stated. “These labs serve as collaborative platforms for academic institutions, startups, industry and researchers to develop, test and validate innovative 5G-based use cases across various sectors.”
These labs are expected to contribute to development of applications in sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, smart infrastructure and disaster management, which are particularly relevant to the North East.
