Shillong, Feb 12: The LIC HFL-Sangam project was launched on Tuesday in Ampati, South West Garo Hills.
The programme was organised by Seven Sisters Development Assistance (SeSTA) in collaboration with the district administration with support from LIC Housing Finance Limited (LIC HFL).
A workshop marked the formal launch of the LIC HFL–Sangam project, which aims to strengthen sustainable livelihoods like piggery, spices, backyard poultry with 1,000 women farmers, promote community institutions like self-help groups and producer groups and enhance institutional convergence across Rerapara and Betasing blocks of SWGH.
Officials from the district and block administrations, representatives of key line departments and development practitioners from SeSTA participated in the event.
Deputy Commissioner Anendya Raajsshre formally launched the project.
While addressing the gathering, the DC emphasised the importance of convergence among line departments and government agencies, civil society organisations like SeSTA and community institutions to ensure effective implementation and long-term sustainability of cluster-based livelihood initiatives.
Supon Chakma, Integrator cum Meghalaya State Lead, presented SeSTA’s work and its convergence success stories, the proposed LIC HFL-Sangam project objectives and approach, followed by an interactive discussion on ‘Opportunities for Convergence in Livelihood Activities’ for bringing in systematic efforts and synergy in supporting the women farmers.
