Nongpoh, Feb 10: A 65-year-old man lost his life after the vehicle he was driving fell into a gorge at Makoibari village under Mawdiangum in Ri-Bhoi today.
The incident occurred at around 1:20pm. The deceased was identified as Rymphangsngi Blah, a resident of Saiden village in Ri-Bhoi. He was travelling from Makoibari towards the main road at Mawdiangum in his jeep (ML 10 1027).
Reports indicate that the vehicle suddenly stalled while on the way. The driver reportedly tried to control and save the vehicle by changing gears, but due to loss of control, the jeep plunged into a gorge, causing him to sustain severe injuries.
Following the incident, personnel from the Nongpoh Traffic Police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured man to Bethany Hospital in Nongpoh for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
