Shillong, Oct 5: The Meghalaya High Court on Monday termed the 41st Interim Report submitted by former Gauhati High Court Judge Justice BP Katakey on illegal coal mining as “revealing and exhaustive.”
A division bench of Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh noted the report was submitted on September 20, 2026, in tabular form detailing directions issued, status, compliance and observations of the committee.
“As the report is revealing and exhaustive, the state respondents are permitted to obtain a copy of the same from the Registry and to file status report thereon, before the next date,” the court said.
The court also noted that the status report to the 40th Interim Report and on its order on August 31, 2026 were filed by the State on Monday itself and were taken on board.
The court said it did not have the opportunity to examine the status reports and the same will be taken up on next date.
The matter has been listed on November 2 for further orders and status report.
