Shillong, Oct 5: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum today called his suspension from the Voice of the People Party (VPP) “illegal and unconstitutional” while insisting he remains very much within the party.
Nongrum, who joined the VPP ahead of the 2023 state election, told reporters he has no intention of leaving.
“I have made it very clear right from the time when I decided to join the VPP… I want to be in that party and I will not leave the party in future. Now I am still with VPP,” he said.
The MLA’s challenge rests largely on a technicality. He alleged that his suspension letter got his designation wrong and addressed him as “Adelbert Nongrum Jaiaw Umsyntiew” instead of MLA of North Shillong.
“They should have suspended the MLA of North Shillong constituency but in the letter, they wrote Adelbert Nongrum Jaiaw Umsyntiew, so if I proceed in the court of law, they will be facing big embarrassment,” he said.
