Shillong, Jan 20: A five-day Management Development Programme (MDP) for the elected members and officials of the Rural Development (Panchayat) Department, Government of Tripura, was inaugurated today at IIM Shillong to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance administrative efficiency in rural local bodies.
The programme is being organised by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, IIM Shillong to facilitate the elected representatives and officials of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to effectively discharge their roles and responsibilities in rural development, planning, and service delivery.
Inaugurating the programme, Prof Rohit Dwivedi of IIM Shillong, emphasized the pivotal role of Panchayats in achieving inclusive and sustainable rural development. He highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability, participatory planning, and effective implementation of government schemes at the grassroots level and urged the elected members to utilize the knowledge and skills gained during the programme for the holistic development of their respective constituencies.
The five-day MDP will cover key thematic areas, including planning and financial management of PRIs, social inclusion, gender equity, community participation, e-governance, conflict management, design thinking, interaction with local panchayat heads and communities, leadership, community resource management, and many more. Senior officials, subject-matter experts, and resource persons will conduct interactive sessions, case studies, and group discussions during the programme.
Thirty-eight such elected Panchayat members and officials from across the state of Tripura are participating in the programme.
