Shillong, Dec 10: A legal awareness programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 (POSH Act) was held at Moolasngi village as part of the World Human Rights Day today.
The programme organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills District, focussed on promoting gender-based safety and workplace dignity.
Resource Person Cordially M Langstang explained the Act’s provisions, covering what constitutes harassment, abuse forms, and redressal mechanisms. She stressed on the role of Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) and employers’ responsibility in ensuring a safe work environment.
Participants were urged to speak out against harassment and support victims.
Langstang also highlighted that human rights are universal and non-negotiable, stressing the need for respect at home, work, and society.
The interactive session addressed queries on legal protection, complaints, and DLSA’s free aid.
The programme concluded with a message that awareness is key to a just, equitable society where women’s safety and rights are upheld.
