Shillong, Sep 11: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma today assured that the government is committed to complete the construction of the Ampati Engineering College.
Sangma told the Assembly that the physical progress of the construction work stands at 25 per cent with a total expenditure of Rs 15 crore till date.
In response to a concern raised by Ampati MLA Miani D Shira over the lack of an approach road to the college, the Education Minister said that a temporary road needs to be constructed by the contractor, which was washed away during rains. He assured that the government would take up the matter for construction of the road.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma expressed disappointment for not being invited to the inauguration of the Shillong Engineering College.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma responded that he was not invited either even as he assured that a proper program would be organised to mark the occasion.
“I wasn’t invited. However, the classes have started. We have not done a formal programme. The building was inaugurated, but we did not get AICTE approval. We will do a nice programme. It is actually a happy and proud moment for the state that the first engineering college has started, and we will ensure everybody shall be invited to the programme,” the Chief Minister said.
