Nongpoh, Aug 6: Police are yet to arrest a mother and son who are accused of brutally assaulting their in-law, one Dlas Shadap, on the night of July 26.
However, even Shadap’s wife, who is the daughter and sister of the two accused, is now afraid for her life and the lives of her children.
The incident in question occurred at Umshangktad village in Ri-Bhoi on July 26, when Shadap was seriously injured after being attacked, allegedly by his brother-in-law and mother-in-law. Both tried to flee after the incident.
Speaking to reporters, Shadap’s wife said that she feels she is in danger along with her six children after being threatened by her mother and brother over the incident.
She said that initially she did not want to implicate her mother and brother because they had threatened her that she would face the same fate if she revealed the truth.
After this incident she sought shelter in other people’s homes. But now other villagers are wary of sheltering her because of the threats being received from her family.
The Rangbah Shnong of the village, Batskhem Sohtun, has also been threatened by the mother and brother and now not only the family of the woman but also the family of the Rangbah Shnong are staying in fear.
Plas Shadap, brother of Dlas Shadap, today expressed his concern over the police dragging their feet in arresting the mother-and-son duo involved in attacking his brother.
