In a seizure that could be connected to the upcoming February 27 Assembly election, the authorities in South West Khasi Hills detected a pickup truck (ML 05 L 0529) today morning that was transporting nearly 800 litres of alcohol.
Authorities around the state are on alert to the transportation of alcohol, hard cash and anything else that could be used to lure voters.
In this instance, authorities were conducting checks at Umjarain when the Mahindra pickup was halted at 4am.
There were 46 cases of various brands of whisky in bottles of different sizes and 50 cases of beer. The total volume of all this alcohol amounted to 794.28 litres worth Rs 2.472 lakh.
