A tumour weighing around 5.7 kg was successfully removed from the abdomen of a 50-year-old woman at the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital in South West Khasi Hills district.
The team of doctors who conducted the surgery was led by Dr. Daniel Suting.
The patient, Anjellos Lyngkhoi of Ngunraw village said she had been experiencing pain since April, 2024 and had consulted many doctors but with no relief. She said she then sought medical attention from the civil hospital where she was suggested to undergo medical tests in Shillong.
Following the investigation, the reports revealed a cyst in her belly measuring 32×22 cm. The doctors treating her advised immediate surgical removal of the tumour.
The surgery was performed on March 6, 2025.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngkhoi thanked the doctors of the hospital for the efforts put in for providing her the extra care needed.
