Destruction of public property, specifically road assets, has taken place under Ranikor PWD (Road) Division, South West Khasi Hills.
In the latest instance, miscreants vandalised and destroyed newly installed road barriers at Pynden Umjaraiñ under Warsan Lyngdoh area recently.
Road barriers are installed along PWD roads as a preventive measure to reduce accidents and fatalities.
The criminal act has been condemned by villagers who said that perpetrators should face severe legal proceedings because such acts of vandalism not only have huge financial implications but also endanger public safety.
It may be mentioned that a timber bridge under the lookout of the Ranikor Division was also burnt down by unidentified miscreants on March 15.
The bridge located along the Maheskola-Sohhylleng road connects Sohhylleng – Amarsang-Umtong-Kut villages.
