Heavy rain has caused significant disruption in South West Khasi Hills district, leading to landslides. The landslide resulted in widespread damage, destroying seven houses. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
According to reports from the District Disaster Management office four houses were destroyed by landslides in Mawkyrwat and three in Ranikor blocks.
Mawkyrwat recorded a rainfall of 300.0mm as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data today.
The IMD has sounded a red alert for much of Meghalaya with extremely heavy rain from June 16 to June 18.
Meanwhile, Mawsynram recorded the heaviest rain of 637.6 mm followed by Sohra at 513.2 mm, RKM Sohra (500.6 mm), Shella (404.0mm), Ratacherra (173.4mm), Williamnagar (103.0mm), Baghmara (70.4mm), Resubelpara (68.2mm), Khliehriat (50.3), Mawphlang (37.8mm) and Ampati (31.0mm).
