Altogether 56 farmers of eight self help groups from four different villages of Ri Bhoi district today attended a training programme under the Jai Jawan Jai Kisan as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The programme was organised by the ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra under the theme, “Uttam: Kheti Unnat Kisan”.
KVK, SMS Horticulture, Dr. Utpal Barua in his opening remarks urged farmers to go for cultivation of horticultural crops by selecting proper planting materials, high yielding and hybrids varieties from known reputed certified sources and adopting scientific package of practices.
The chief guest of the programme, Dr. M. Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK Ri-Bhoi emphasised on good horticultural practices and expediting organic certification of produce and land so that farmers can double their income by exporting horticulture produce.
During the programme 70 seed units of vegetable varieties developed by IARI, New Delhi has been provided to the trainees.
