A training programme on advances on potato production technology was organised by the ICAR-CRPI (RS), Upper Shillong for farmers of Ri Bhoi district, today.
The programme was conducted under NEH programme in collaboration with KVK, Ri-Bhoi ICAR Umiam at the premises of KVK where 53 farmers from five villages of the district participated.
The programme was attended by Dr. Meghna Sarma, in charge head of KVK, Ri-Bhoi, Dr Yvonne Angel Lyngdoh, scientist CPRI, Regional Station, Shillong with senior scientist from ICAR Complex, Dr. Tasvina R. Borah and Mightystar Lyngdoh, Deputy Project Director, ATMA.
The scientists spoke on different aspects of potato crop right from variety selection, diversification, integrated disease management, intensification especially table and processing varieties which are helpful for employment generation and doubling farmers’ income for higher productivity and profitability. They also emphasized on the use of quality seeds, improved varieties and scientific potato cultivation.
A group discussion was held among the scientists, officials and farmers.
The programme concluded with quality seed distribution of potato variety, Kufri Pukhraj.
