Police have detained five individuals after petrol bombs were hurled at a statue of a prominent businessman in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning. Stones were also hurled at an ATM booth, causing some damage.
More than one petrol bomb was thrown at the statue of JN Bawri in front of Bawri Mansion in Dhankheti, though little damage ensued. The incident occurred at around 4am.
Five people were picked up by police on suspicion of having had a hand in the incident, Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger informed a media outlet, and investigations are continuing.
