The Garo Hills unit of the All Meghalaya Fourth Teachers Association (AMFTA) is anguished as its members have been made to wait for their salaries for three months now.
The teachers have not been paid for January to March yet and are struggling to make ends meet, a press release from the association stated today.
The association, which represents more than 1,500 fourth teachers, wants regularisation of service, equal salary on par with their peers in ad hoc, deficit and government schools, regular disbursement of their salaries and a 5 percent annual wage hike.
A memorandum on this issue was submitted last month to Education Minister Rakkam Sangma, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and senior officials.
