In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) police team in Ri-Bhoi detained two young men in possession of 8.6kg of cannabis, which they had carried with them on a tourist bus.
The two were passing through Meghalaya on their way to Guwahati from Silchar when the Assam-registered bus (AS 24C 9855) they were travelling in was stopped by police at around 8:30am based on intelligence provided by a source.
Seven suspicious packages were found on the duo – identified as Rohit Raj Pandey (22) and Bipul Kumar (19). Both hail from Patna.
The packages were found to contain cannabis that weighed approximately 8.6kg. The contraband was seized, along with two mobile phones, and the two suspects detained. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against Pandey and Kumar.
