Four former MLAs from Garo Hills are expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Sources informed that these former legislators belong to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Congress.
However, sources refused to divulge the names of these ex-legislators.
“I can only say that one of these former MLAs was close to Mukul Sangma,” the sources said on condition of anonymity.
When asked what made these individuals decide to join the BJP, the sources said that they made the decision to do so seeing the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work he has done for the country.
“They also know that the BJP is coming back to power after the Lok Sabha elections…,” the sources said.
With the possible joining of these four ex-legislators, the BJP is hopeful that it will put up a good show in the Lok Sabha elections at least from the Tura Parliamentary seat.
The BJP in Meghalaya won two seats in the 2023 Assembly polls both from Shillong city constituencies – Cabinet Minister AL Hek (Pynthorumkhrah) and Sanbor Shullai (Shillong South).
The party has not yet named its candidates for either the Shillong or Tura Parliamentary seats.
